Mary Bock

Mary A. Bock is an assistant professor in the University of Texas at Austin School of Journalism. She is a former journalist turned academic with an interest in the sociology of photographic practice, the relationship between words and images, and digital media. Her previous career spanned more than 20 years in television news, with stints as a newspaper reporter, a radio journalist and public relations writer. Bock recently coauthored “Visual Communication Theory and Research.” Her 2012 book, “Video Journalism: Beyond the One Man Band,” studied the relationship between solo multimedia practice and news narrative.
